Four-Year-Old Kindergarten
We are thrilled to offer a new 4K classroom through South Carolina’s First Steps 4K initiative! This free, high-quality, full-day program is designed to give your child the best possible start to school, and to life.
The first five years, the preschool years, are the formative years. This is the period the child develops approximately 70% of their brain connections. Stimulation to the brain during this time is imperative as it strengthens these connections and absorbs information like a sponge.
What is 4K?
The 4K Program is a free, full-day preschool for four-year-olds. It’s designed to help children build the academic and social skills they need to thrive in kindergarten and beyond. The program is play-based, hands-on, and focused on school readiness through joyful, developmentally appropriate learning.
What makes our 4K program special?
At Fort Mill Cooperative Preschool, our 4K classroom offers a nurturing, creative environment rooted in the Reggio Emilia approach. We build each day around your child’s interests, encouraging independence, curiosity, and confidence. With small class sizes, experienced teachers, and lots of opportunities for movement, exploration, and expression, our 4K students are supported as whole children: socially, emotionally, and academically.

Your child may qualify for free, full-day 4K through First Steps if they turn 4 before September 1st and meet certain income or family criteria.

If you qualify for the free 4K program, simply select Fort Mill Cooperative Preschool as your provider when completing your application on the First Steps website.
Tuition-Based 4K Enrollment
If your family doesn’t qualify for the free 4K program through First Steps, your child can still join our classroom through a tuition-based option.
