Prospective Families

A Welcome Letter from Our Executive Director

Welcome to Fort Mill Cooperative Preschool. I am so excited that you are considering our preschool as the place for your child to grow and learn! If you make FMCP your “school home”, my desire is that your child grow to love his/ her preschool class and come home talking about all the wonderful things they did and learned throughout the day. Our program offers a wide variety of academic experiences and works to instill a love of learning into the hearts of our young students.

Our preschool teachers work hard to make sure that your child is actively learning throughout the day. We plan daily lessons to encourage and challenge your preschooler to learn all that they can about the world around them. Our academics focus on language arts skills, math, writing, art, science, and social skills. We have many fun opportunities for the children to become involved in their classrooms; and we are excited to be a full-fledged COOPERATIVE PRESCHOOL. You will be amazed at all the new and exciting things we will accomplish as we join to make our school THE best preschool in Fort Mill.

I speak highly of our preschool program not only as the Executive Director, but also as grandmother of three grandchildren who currently attend FMCP. My family has been a part of the FMCP family since 2000. We have been blessed by the relationships we have built here and by the many teachers who instructed my eight grandchildren throughout the years. I can’t imagine a better place for my grandchildren to spend their day learning and growing to know such a multicultural staff. I look forward to our new school year. If you have, any questions please feel free to e-mail me at info@fortmillpreschool.org.

Our Teaching Approach

Reggio-Inspired Learning

FMCP is a Reggio-Inspired School. The Reggio Emilia Approach is an educational philosophy primarily adopted within preschools and primary education. The Reggio-Inspired Approach focuses on a student-centered, constructivist approach that allows the children to have self-directed, experiential learning in a safe, natural environment while meeting the state and licensing requirements for our A+ accreditation. Here at FMCP, we realize that children form their own personality at an early age and learn to express their personalities and ideas a variety of ways. We strive to allow the children to learn through exploration and discovery while learning and following the principles of respect, responsibility and community.

Assessments

FMCP follows the ASQ-3: Ages & Stages Questionnaires (3rd Ed.) to monitor children’s development in the infant through two-year old classes. In addition to ASQ-3, the teachers in the three-year old through transitional kindergarten classes do other assessments including the public school entry assessment. Every parent/guardian has the opportunity to have a conference with their child’s teacher in the fall and spring of each year. If the parent/guardian would like to see the assessments including art and writing samples (if applicable), they are always welcome to see their child’s portfolio.
